In the Press

As the Community Arts Department work alongside the Marketing Department here at Summerlee, I am also able to help the Marketing Team with any tasks I can. The Marketing Team receive all press cuttings from a company called Press Information Scotland Ltd. The press cuttings include articles from newspapers that include anything to do with CultureNL. If the press cuttings include some of the following phrases, they get sent to the Marketing Team:
· CultureNL
· Summerlee Heritage Centre
· Motherwell Concert Hall
· Motherwell Theatre
· Bellshill Cultural Centre
· Summerlee Museum
· Motherwell Civic Centre
· Any other North Lanarkshire Cultural Centre
I went through the press cuttings and arranging them into categories of positive, neutral and negative. Once I had done that, I put the information into an excel spreadsheet that I then sent back to the Marketing Team for their records.
Later in the afternoon I had a meeting with Mary Currie from City of Glasgow College. That is who will be providing my qualification of a ‘Diploma in Community Arts Management’.
Mary ran through all the project and units that I will be doing. The four main milestones are:
· Keep up to date with developments in the Arts – Generating ideas for community arts projects (2 units)
· Assist in developing, delivering and evaluating projects – Manage own performance in a business environment – work effectively with other people in a creative and cultural context (3 units)
· Support the organisation of creative or cultural or exhibitions – supporting public relation activities (2units)
· Support marketing activities – develop/deliver a presentation (3 units)
It was really useful to know what the qualification consisted of so that I can incorporate it with working in the office and out at Community Art Classes. Mary discussed what was expected from her and what standard of work she expects from me. Mary plans on visiting and checking up on me every 2nd Wednesday at the moment to discuss my process.
