Becoming an Apprentice

My first day as a Community Arts Apprentice began with an induction to North Lanarkshire Council at the Municipal Buildings in Coatbridge as they are providing my apprenticeship along with CultureNL. It was carried out by the Modern Apprentice Development Coordinator Joanna Cain. The induction included some vital information about working with the Council:

· Policy & Training Team Standards

· The importance of Skills Development Scotland

· Performance Standards & Rules

· Health & Safety Information

· Acceptable Use of ICT

I then headed to the office where I am based at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting settled into the office and meeting everyone in the team. I met the Arts Outreach Manager Irene Halliday who interviewed me for the apprentice position. I then had an induction to CultureNL with Irene where I learned about:

· Conduct and Responsibilities

· Code of Conduct

· Handling Information at Work

· Safety and Security

· Emergency & Evacuation Procedure

· Customer Service Standards

· Data Protection

I was also introduced to the service that CultureNL provide for everyone in North Lanarkshire: Community Arts Classes, Youth Theatre Shows, Pantomimes, Music Events, Tribute Shows to name a few. I couldn’t wait to be a part of it and get involved.
